Automatic visa extension for foreigners in Vietnam until 31 August, 2021

Implementing the direction of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Public Security’s leadership on the continuation of the “automatic extension Vietnam visa” for foreigners affected by the Covid-19 epidemic that cannot leave the country yet, Vietnam Immigration Department notice:

1. Foreigners who entered Vietnam on visa waiver, e-visa or tourist visa from 01 March 2020 are entitled to automatic visa extension until 31 August 2021 and can depart from Vietnam without having to extend their stay permit.
2. For those who entered Vietnam before 01 March 2020, the same automatic visa extension can be considered, subject to provision of proof that the person was stranded in Vietnam due to COVID-19, accompanied by a diplomatic Note (with Vietnamese translation) from the relevant diplomatic mission, or a written document from the relevant Vietnamese authorities confirming that the person was required to undergo mandatory quarantine or treatment for COVID-19, or advice of other force majeure. The concerned person is required to present the said diplomatic Note or written document on departure from Vietnam.
3. During the automatic visa extension period, foreigners are required to complete temporary residence and health status declaration.
4. Foreigners who do not fall into the above-mentioned cases or commit other law violations shall comply with current provisions of Vietnamese law.
